268 Metrobank’s Bike Workshop with CONCERN, Marikina

Written by core team member, Clare Cruz

Marikina is the perfect venue for outdoor activities. We were blessed with good weather and lots of sunshine as 30 kids from Concern enjoyed bike riding. U! Happy Core team dressed as elves assisted the volunteers and kids in teaching them the basics of cycling. As Christmas is a time of joy, we also had Christmas themed games as the kids learned about the true meaning of the holidays. Values such as hope, faith and love were instilled through role playing and pass-the-message. The event sponsored by Metrobank card took part in the fun, all gamely dressed in red.

Part of their corporate social responsibility is to uplift the lives of others through community work wherein it is important to share their blessings. It is an opportunity to remember how to share gifts received throughout the year as a way to demonstrate gratitude.

By donating bikes, the activity also promotes long term health by encouraging kids to be active. It was truly a special and heart-warming occasion as the kids look forward to riding their new bicycles. Their eyes also sparkled with delight getting new school supplies and toys. Christmas cheer was in the air as everyone celebrated Jesus’ birth. With happy hearts and a little sweat, the entire event was undoubtedly a success. It was an event that gives back to children in need, embodying the essence of the holiday season.
