Kuya Japhet Celebrates with Little Lights Ministry

Written by: Kuya Joms Lapira, Secretary
Kuya Japhet Paragsa, fresh from a vacation overseas, just turned 34 years old last August. So last September 22, he sponsored an art-filled afternoon for 30 kids from the Little Lights Ministry in McDonald’s. Little Lights is a non-profit organization located in Pasig which provides Christian values-based teachings to marginalized kids in the community.
Kuya Japs, a core member of U! Happy since 2015, kicked off the afternoon by allowing teams to get to know each other. Each of the 5 groups came up with a group name and a creative chant to hype their teams. We played two games: Rapid Fire, wherein kids build at pyramid from paper cups and shoot it down with rubber bands, and Pass the Charade, wherein the participants from each group individually guess the subject in a relay-type contest.
After the games, we cooled down with an art workshop courtesy of Ate Blanca, one of our resident artists. She taught us how to make dog and cat origami. The kids were excited to learn paper folding and even more ecstatic on designing their masterpieces.
Throughout the afternoon, we also had Kuya Marlon do facepaint on the kids. There was never a dull moment during the event as everyone was occupied with various activities.
After finishing their crafts, we had our filling dinner of McChicken with rice, McFries and Hot Fudge Sundae! Kuya Japs capped the day by giving away toiletries kits to the kids.
Kuya Japs, despite recently celebrating his birthday, intended the event to be low-key. He did not want the recognition. The laughter and joy from the kids were already enough as gift and reward for him.
In a day that brought out the creative artistry of the kids, one piece of art stood out: Kuya Japs.
