337 JCI Ortigas’ Story Telling Workshop with Tahanan ng Pagmamahal

Written by Core Team Member, Charmain Tan

For our 55th event this year our team visited the new home of 26 energetic kids of Tahanan ng Pagmamahal. This is our second partnership with JCI Ortigas for 2014.

Tahanan ng Pagmamahal started out with 13 children and has now grown to 39 children. Their previous house was flooded and fortunately there were nice people who swam and rescued them. A storm of donations came and now a house was built, a place they can call home.

The day started out with our standard getting to know each other activity, where one member per team enumerated every member’s name, favorite food, and actor – a show of our volunteers’ and kids’ very impressive memory skills.

Kuya Rich then conducted a series of story telling activities. He started out with acting exercises, which included making facial expressions without sounds. We also had dancing and singing with it. Towards the end, the kids and volunteers were teamed up for a Paint A Picture game.

The day wouldn’t be complete without our gift giving. We gave out story books, treats, and food to the children. They were so excited they started reading their books before eating.

As a thank you to the volunteers the children prepared a group violin performance of the classic song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. As they said goodbye to their Ates and Kuyas the kids gave them big hugs.

Please note that we blurred or covered the faces of the kids for their protection. 🙂
