It was as sporty Sunday afternoon as Ate Stacey opted to celebrate her birthday with fun games and dynamic workshop. Ate Stacey together with her family and friends spent time with 25 energetic young boys from Haven for Children in Alabang.
We started by inviting the volunteers in front to introduce themselves and share their favorite sports to the young boys. Then, they were evenly distributed and assigned as Ates and Kuyas per group. We asked everyone to share a bit of themselves among their groups – name, favorite sports, and what the boys want to be when they grow up. Afterwards, they had to come up with a group name. Our group theme for the day was different countries in the world. We had Team India, USA, China, Thailand, and of course, Philippines.
As we get to the active part of the program, we played Speed Cones. All volunteers teamed up against the boys. Both team raced to put up all the scattered cones up or down in 30 seconds. The boys won for three consecutive rounds!
After the speedy game, we had Futsal workshop conducted by Coach Yo Casal and Coach LeeJ Masbad of Luntian FC. Coach Yo gave an introduction about Futsal and explained its difference from football. Football is played outdoors in a large field while Futsal is indoors and on a hard court. Also, soccer is played with 11 players while Futsal has 5 players. The coaches led the stretching and warm-up exercises to prepare the body for the physical activity. Then, we had the workshop proper where the boys learned the basics on how to play futsal. Afterwards, the teams had friendly matches and battled in out in the court.
After the workshop, the groups huddled and enjoyed a yummy Chicken pasta meal. Everybody had their time again to bond and learn from each other as they eat.
The boys were given hygiene kits and awesome Color Manila giveaways. With so much delight, they immediately wore those colorful shades, headgears and bags. We had our final group photo and the boys looked so ready for summer! As a sign of gratitude, the boys showed off their best dance moves.
Again, Thank U! Ate Stacey for celebrating your birthday with the young boys from Haven for Children. Stay beautiful inside and out. Hope you had a great time on your special day!
