It was off to the 2nd event for the day for U! Happy Events at the Gawad Kalinga site in Brgy. Escopa. Located in Project 4, Quezon City, we were welcomed by the kids who were already organized into five (5) groups. An active afternoon awaited them as this event was going to be about games, games and more games!
Ate Renz just added another year in her bubbly life and she gathered her friends and parents to spend an energetic event with 25 kids. She organized a magic show and carnival game booths for them and the kids to enjoy.
Our volunteers first introduced themselves upfront by doing a 5-second dance. This made sure they shook off whatever timidity they had to break the ice easier between them and the kids. After distributing them into the 5 groups, they spent the next couple of minutes getting to know their kid-partners for the day.
We then played 2 games to liven up the already bright afternoon. We played Hula Hoop relay and Pass the Charades. These games lived up to their exciting billings and were really such fun games to watch. We can only imagine they were even more thrilling for the volunteers and the kids who got to play them.
Professional magician Mr. Click took the stage soon after for an interactive magic performance. Aside from his dazzling tricks, he also had some lively interaction with the kids which made his act filled with humor as well.
Finally, the volunteers and kids readied themselves for the game booths. To make it interesting, we made it a competition among the 5 teams. A member of their team who would complete a game would get a point, and the team with the most points was declared the champion. The next 30 minutes or so ensued with the teams fixated on the game they’re playing. The great thing about it is the kids are able to practice being focused and at the same time have fun!
After going through all the booths, the teams had some much needed snack. In this part of the program, we also got to sing Ate Renz a happy birthday. She also gave a sweet message to the kids before distributing to them their gifts. The entire group gathered together for the last time for a final group photo to wrap up the dynamic Saturday.
Once again, we wish Ate Rens a very Happy birthday! It was such a joy to witness their enthusiasm throughout the day’s activities. Thank U! to all who participated and we hope U! can be part of our other events in the future.
