Me and Tin are longtime friends who share the same birthday. Before we both got married, we spent our birthdays partying or doing shopping sprees. It was fun until the party lasted or we’ve depleted their savings.
Priorities have shifted now that we have our own kids. We know that it is impossible to change the world to make it better. But as moms, we can start teaching our kids to be compassionate and kind. Also, we felt it is high time we share with others the abundant blessing we receive from God.
So together with our families, me and Tin threw a birthday/Christmas party for 25 kids of Living Faith in Jesus Ministry. It was an afternoon filled with laughter and excitement. We talked about their dreams and aspirations in life. And every kid was eager to win the ‘name that Christmas song’ game. They were also amazed with the magician’s splendid sleight of hands and with the massive bubbles from the bubble show.
Food donations from our friends arrived and soon there was more than enough for everyone to feast on.
Right after the hearty merienda, the kids lined up to get gifts, stuffed toys and loot bags. Thrilled and delighted are the best adjectives to describe them. Me, Tin and the rest of our families were showered with never ending expressions of gratitude (thank yous and hugging) from the kids.
I also thanked them for gracing their event. I mentioned that my wish is for them to study really hard, in which they promised to do. Tin responded that she is hoping that they will also pass on this kind of experience to others when they are successful already.
Everyone went home with a smile and with much more than what they took with them.
