Ate Mika Celebrates with SK Barangay Valenzuela

Written by: Ate Char, U! Happy Officer
We are in the middle of the Christmas rush as it is only three days to go before Christmas! Everyone was excited as we headed to Barangay Valenzuela in Makati. We were joined by some of the SK youth leaders and the children living in the community.
We first introduced the volunteers to the kids. Ate Mika just stared with her new job and wanted to share her blessings with the children this holiday season. Her friends and family joined her as we celebrate the season of giving. They shared their Christmas wishes this holiday. They all want to spend time with their families and wished everyone a good health. The volunteers then joined the groups of kids and they in turn got to know the children in their groups.
The first group was Tropang Bagets of Ate Mitch. The second team was Team Fantastic Kids of Ate Mica. Ate Leizl’s team was Team Vendetta and Ate Mika’s team was Team Basic. The first activity we did was High Trivia. Before each round we would give a category and teams had to list as many items as they could within the given category. The team with the most number of items got a point. Some of the categories were colors, vegetables, countries, and others. Teams were very competitive as they came up with a really long list. Team Tropang Bagets singlehandedly won all points in all the rounds therefore making them the landslide winner of the game.
The second activity we did was Reverse Pinoy Henyo. In this game, instead of just one person guessing the word, the entire team would ask questions answerable by yes or no. One kid per team would know the word while the rest of the team would guess for the correct word. Before each round we would give the category and teams would simultaneously guess for the word. Some of the categories were country, vegetable, sport, animal, and others. Teams formed their own strategy as everyone wanted to win. Ate Mika of Team Basic was the first to reach four points and declared the winner of the game.
The third activity we did was the Ball Relay. Teams formed a straight line in pairs. Each team was given a ball which had to be put in the middle of 2 players. We would specify where the balls were to be placed before each round. All pairs then had to run all the way to the chair and back to their teams. The team that finished first got a point. We did side to side, head to head, shoulder to shoulder. It was so fun to watch as some of the volunteers were carrying their the kids with the balls in between them. In the end Team Vendetta won the game.
After all the fun it was time for the kids’ early lunch. One of the kids, Christine, led the prayer. The volunteers sat and ate with the kids. We then gave the prizes to the winners of the group games. Ate Mika and her family also gave school suppliers, Christmas candy pack, and rice pack for each of the children. We then had our group photo and the kids hugged and thanked their ates and kuyas for sharing the love this holiday season.
