Ate Jhen Celebrates with Little Lights

Written by: Kuya Glenn, U! Happy Officer
A final call for our last event of the year gathered together Ate Jhen Raymundo, her family and 30 kids from Little Lights Foundation in Pasig City. An ordinary Saturday was anything but as we celebrated not only our sponsor’s birthday but also U! Happy’s 12th year anniversary!
Our delightful volunteers and kids were also joined by a few U! Happy interns who were just as eager. We organized them into six (6) groups and got them started with our getting-to-know ice breaker.
Being our last event of the year, we weren’t too timid with the games at all so we decided to play a total of 3 – in addition to 2 other entertaining shows already lined up.
The first one we played was Fish Be With You. They had to ‘fan’ as many little fish cut-outs as they could into a basket. It’s like fishing without a rod, a net nor an ocean pretty much but it was unique and a lot of fun nonetheless.
The 2nd and 3rd games were 2 of our favorites – Bring Me Art and Pass the Dance. Just as we thought, the kids and volunteers displayed their imaginative aptitude and rhythmic groove in addition to just plain old agility in these contests. Prizes were handed out to the kids of the winning groups.
A couple of charming showcases were next up with Ate Divine’s Balloon Twisting and JM the Bubble Man’s Bubble Show. These 2 were absolute winners, catching the inspired fancies of the kids with their sparkling dazzle and radiant display.
Our volunteers soon shared a meal with the kids, relishing a healthy snack with some sorbetes for desserts. Ate Jhen and her family then gave out the special gifts they prepared for the kids.
The curtains may have closed on 2018 but events like these only keep us excited for what’s to come. Happy birthday again to Ate Jhen and thank U for giving us a wonderful event to close another season of volunteering.
