1169 Amici’s Pizza and Pasta Making with Tuloy Foundation

Written by: Kuya Harvard De Baron, Founder
Another worthy collaboration with our NGO, U! Happy transpired last week. U! Happy has been around for 12 years, providing a platform for individuals and companies to volunteer for marginalized children. Amici, on the other hand, a decade old Italian favorite chose the kids of Tuloy Foundation as their beneficiary.
Amici started out as a school cafeteria in Don Bosco. Now, it’s one of the top destinations for Italian casual dining. Executive Chef Paolo Moran, a young chef with experience in Florence and Sicily, recently created a new set of modern yet authentic Italian dishes.
Tuloy Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization founded by Salesian priest Fr. Rocky Evangelista. It is focused on giving street children hope for a better life. Their Mission is to be a Center of Excellence in the reintegration of street children into mainstream society through a comprehensive program of caring, healing and teaching. Tuloy admits street children, providing them with basic needs: food, clothing, shelter, basic education and vocational skills training; but most important, values and spiritual formation. It has, since its foundation in 1993, already affected the lives of over 10,000 street children, currently serving as many as 800 children.
The afternoon of May 26 was not your usual media day. Together with all parties, bloggers were immersed in both volunteering and an unusual dining activity. Twenty children from Tuloy were partnered with them for a pasta and pizza making workshop led by Chef Paolo. Each group had a full immersion of what happens inside the kitchen, complete with uniforms, tools and ingredients.
The delicious outputs were create your own brick oven pizza and two types of pasta, using white and red sauces. After which, everyone took turns choosing their favorite gelato flavor.
