Ate Meann’s Christ-centered Birthday Celebration
In a time when most people relax on long weekends, Ate Mary Anne “Meann” Catura decided to serve others.
Ate Meann, also called Macky by some of her friends, just turned 35 years old last August 7, 2017.
On August 19, she celebrated her birthday with 25 kids from 2KK Escopa at Tanglaw Court, Brgy. Escopa, Project 4, Quezon City. The little boys and girls are 4-6 years old and lives in the community.
Since all of her friends were on vacation, Ate Meann and the entire U! Happy Team, composed of 2 core members and 4 interns, had to guide the kids with 1:5 ratio. It was advantageous that Ate Meann, a seasoned volunteer, also hosts annual outreach events.
To our delight, the kids were well-behaved, engaged and cooperative. We played “The Longest Banderitas”, where the group with the most number of banderitas wins, and “Shape It Up”, where groups form a designated shape from straw strings. After the games, our very own Ate Amy led a Catechism Art Workshop.
Ate Meann chose the Catechism Art Workshop to imbue Christ-like values to the kids at an early age. She believes that Jesus Christ should be at the center of all the things that we do.
After the workshop, we had spaghetti and hotdogs for snacks. Ate Meann capped the day by giving out “baon” packs to the kids.
