952 Ate Joann Celebrates with National Children’s Hospital

Amidst the hustle and bustle in the city, we were able to squeeze in an event on a Thursday afternoon. It was logistically challenging, but our efforts pay off when we see the happy faces of our partner beneficiaries.
We braved the EDSA traffic to go to National Children’s Hospital in E. Rodriguez, Quezon City to hold a short event sponsored by a group of Overseas Filipinos who are working in Oslo, Norway. They were only here in Manila for a short vacation but they still managed to spend a portion of their time with the patients from NCH Pediatric Ward.
The event started with the few volunteers, around 7 introducing themselves to the children and their guardians. We challenged this group to mention their names creatively to warm up everyone faster.
A short game to boost the energy of the kids was played. This time, we tasked the kids to perform certain animals like dog, elephant and monkey. The volunteers were there to pick who acted and participated in our short game.
A magic show was performed by Kuya Koby who did some jaw-dropping magic tricks to the amazement of the kids. The children were awe in most parts while laughter was also present in some of the performances. A mother shared her positive sentiments after the show and said, am glad they could smile like that again.
To keep up with the momentum, we moved to the favorite part of the event. Eating time! The volunteers had a yummy chicken adobo rice meal as well as chocolate cake with the kids and the guardians.
We ended the event with the kids giving warm hugs to our volunteers. We’re sure that our volunteers will be coming back to Norway with only happy memories from the few days they’ve spent here in Manila.
