881 Young Adult Ministry Celebrates with Gentle Hands

Written by U! Happy Events’ Staff, Ate Michaela Maligaya
Every person born is not given the chance to choose to which family of origin he or she shall belong. But each of us is given the free will to choose which “second family” that shares the same faith and practice we want to be part of.
Today, we are joined by ates and kuyas who have willingly chosen to be part of Jesus Is Lord Young Adult Ministry; a congregation of single professionals (some participants were teachers, accountants, nurses and members of the air force) who gathered together and share one calling. Through Pastor Rey Reyes, they coordinated with U! Happy Events to touch the lives of those who were abandoned by their families and are now under the tender care of Gentle Hands orphanage in Quezon City.
40 kids who have been staying with Gentle Hands reveled with 26 ates and kuyas who volunteered to sponsor today’s event. There were lots of games, prizes and food!
For first game, kuya Harvard started off with Stock Me Up. The kids and the volunteers were divided into 7 groups. Each group was given paper cups. For each round, a mathematical equation was given. A pyramid was then built from the paper cups with the number of cups used equivalent to each group’s answer. The fastest group to build with the correct answer earned a point for every round and the group that got 3 points won.
For second game, Stand or Fall. Small traffic cones were placed in the middle of the court. Volunteers stood on the right side, kids stood on the left. The two teams had different goals—team YAM must make all the cones lay on the floor. Team kids must make the cones stand. The team that achieved their goals in fastest time won the round. Within 4.90 seconds, team YAM won the game!
For the last game, Act A Video. The participants were divided again into groups. Different scenarios were given by kuya Harvard, and each group must act it out. There was Noche Buena, Christmas characters in North Pole, theme park and outer space. For their creativity, team work and best effort, Group 3 won the game.
As the games have eaten everyone’s strength, snacks were distributed and shared. They sat on the floor as they took their meals and chitchatted with their new friends.
These kids from Gentle Hands didn’t choose to be left by their own families. But in this world, there are still people with loving hearts welcoming everyone to be part of their own family. With Young Adult Ministry, the children felt that they belonged to a new one in celebrating Christmas. Thank you so much ates and kuyas!
