215 Ate Jo-e Celebrates with Real Life Foundation

Written by Kuya Harvard

The last time we volunteered at Real LIFE was November 2011 for Kids Imagination. It was an event focused on stories and creativity. Volunteers wore their favorite storybook characters. We also had storytelling, puppet show and games. U! Happy Events also donated a mini library of hundreds of storybooks for their center.

Ms. Lynn Nawata shared us the changes since. They now separate the younger kids from the pre-teens. We had an opportunity to volunteer at the morning program for the 3-8 year olds. We figured that they have very low attention span and they like moving around. So in the first 10 minutes we let them free. They ran, climbed, shouted, and played with our volunteers.

After they have settled, we got them to engage in coloring their animal-shaped masks. We had volunteers assist them in designing the 5 main characters- monkey, dog, bird, elephant and rabbit. We paired this with a storytelling headed by Kuya Harvard as the lion and Ate Jo-e, our VP External, as the narrator. We had the active kids act out their own characters as well.

After the activities, the kids were eager to have their meals. It was a special menu- chicken lollipop with gravy! Real Life has been doing this feeding program for years and it surely has assisted in the physical growth of these kids.
