866 Team Karen Celebrates with Nicanor Garcia Elementary School

If there’s something wrong in the neighborhood, who you gonna call? Team Karen! Yes, Team Karen! A group from Startek-Makati just made the neighborhood’s day a little brighter.
14 members lead by Ms. Karen Bitancor joined 30 kids from Nicanor Garcia Elementary School for a short yet fun-filled treat for that day. Kuya Rich, a ball of pure sunlight and energy, guided everyone in conducting the activity.
To break the ice, kuya Rich asked the participant kids, ates and kuyas to divide themselves into 5 groups. A few minutes were given for each member to introduce themselves, tell their favorite dish, celebrity crushes and what they dream of becoming when they grow up. For some memory test, 2 members from each group were asked in front to share what they learned about their chosen partner from their team.
Warm up done. Game time! For starter: a mathematic challenge with a twist. Kuya Rich gave equations for each team to compute. But instead of saying the right answer, the groups were instructed to use the correct number of paper cups and pile them up into a pyramid. The second game called for pairs: the Blind Toss. One partner was blind folded, holding the ping pong ball. His or her partner stood on the opposite side to catch the ball tossed by the other. Each round, the space in between the pairs got farther. The last pair who caught the ball with the farthest distance won.
After the mind and body exercise, kuya Rich shared a short story entitled “Mahabang Mahabang Mahaba,” about a boy who has a very long name and later on discovered it’s origin and meaning.
The sponsors also prepared an active game called “Hep Hep, Hooray!” Each team had to shout and make corresponding hand gestures when the mic was placed in front of them. The team that failed to follow the chain got out and the last remaining team won.
But even after a few loss, every kid received prizes and gifts from Team Karen. There were loot bags with candies and snacks, toys and school supplies given to each student. Some school materials were also donated to the school received by the teachers and principal of Nicanor Garcia Elementary School. The party ended with lots of picture-taking, hugs and words of gratitude from the kids. Nobody felt they lost after all. Win-win!
