824 Takbo Breast Friends Year 5 with Precious Heritage Children’s Home

Written by Board Member, Ate Charmain Tan
This is our fifth consecutive year joining the Takbo! Breast Friends, a fun run organized by Soroptimist Ortigas in line with the breast cancer awareness month. We thank chairperson Ms Enriqueta Doble for always inviting us to participate. The event aims to raise funds to support different projects such as free Chemotherapy for breast cancer patients. It also gives beast cancer awareness lectures and clinical breast screenings. The run is held every October at Tiendesitas Pasig City. This year we brought the kids of Precious Heritage to join the 3K run.
We brought 11 children from Precious Heritage Children’s Home. It was established in 2008, giving home to orphaned and abandoned children. The home also provides programs for the underprivileged children in the community.  In 2013 Precious Heritage Christian School was established, giving the children opportunity to obtain quality education.
The children arrived as early as four in the morning as everyone was really excited. The event started with the Laughter Yoga then we did some warm up exercises including stretching and dance. The kids were happily following the instructors as they raised their arms and stretched their legs. As the 10K and 5K runners went ahead, the kids got ready and waited eagerly by the starting line. As soon as it was a go, the kids ran so fast past the starting line. Some of them ran really fast and finished 4th and 6th place in the 12 and under category. The others took their time to get accustomed to running. We taught the kids the proper pacing and went with them for their water break. One of the kids couldn’t run that fast so Kuya Romward patiently walked with him until they reached the finish line. When we all finished the kids happily got their loot bags filled with snacks. They all finished their chocolate covered doughnuts at once. We also had fun taking our group photos with the kids at the finish line.
After the run we had our breakfast at McDonalds where the kids enjoyed their chicken and french fries while talking about the run. After the fun-filled morning the kids thanked us for letting them join. It was mostly everyone’s first time to join a fun run and they do not get to experience these kinds of activities that often. As it was Sunday, the kids thanked us once again as they headed to their Sunday mass.
