A healthy mind and body brings a happy heart. When you exercise, you’re helping build a strong body that will be able to do all the stuff you need to do resulting to a happy and accomplished individual. Believing in the idea of fitness and that one can keep himself fit while having fun, SOS Children’s Village for kids in Ayala Alabang holds a yearly fun run for volunteer and kids to participate. Thus, last May 14,2016, their annual Fun Run transpired with the theme “Run as One”. This is another activity where volunteers and kids can bond with each other.
Before the race started, there was an activity prepared by the admin. The registration started at 5am inside the SOS Children’s Village and as soon as all the participants are complete, the activity took place. There was an opening remark from Kuya Jom and followed by Kuya Yen, a German volunteer and representative from SOS Germany. He is also a certified health buff. Kuya Yen gave a wonderful message about supporting kids in need and gave advises about keeping ourselves fit to be able to live a healthier life. Afterwards, a warm up was done headed by Kuya Kidlat, a renowned athlete and also an SOS volunteer.
When everyone seemed ready to race, the participants were lined in The SOS entrance. Then, the race sash was released. Kids and volunteers all ran as fast as they could. Some were just chilling and walking with their friends and the kids. The race map includes track along Mindanao avenue ( starting point) going to Luzon avenue and then traversing back to the starting point – SOS village. There were water stations in every corner of the streets and race marshals to guide the runners of the track.
When everyone got back in SOS, food was then served. The SOS prepared delicious Arroz Caldo meal to all the volunteers and hotdog sandwich to the kids. While eating, an awarding ceremony transpired. We were so happy because three U! Happy volunteers got medals including myself. Clearly, we prepared for the event and took it seriously. We also want to show the kids and other volunteers that U! Happy people are active and fit people so that we can better serve the community.
A dance workshop followed on led by two volunteers from SOS. Everyone danced and grooved to this fun event which also served as a post-work out. Photos and videos were taken thereafter and the kids and volunteers brought home wonderful memories of that event. The fun run was very successful and had met it its goal of bringing people together while keeping them fit and healthy. Try to be active too by doing regular exercise and eating the right food and surely your body will thank you later!
