863 SNB Celebrates with He Cares Foundation

Written by Volunteer, Ate Jaclyn Lutanco-Chua
Last December 3, some members of the SnB barkada trooped to the office of the He Cares Foundation in Quezon City so that they could spend their morning with some 300 orphans and street children.
This activity was part of SnB’s SNB Gives Back, their annual Christmas outreach program. Past projects have included feeding programs in other communities, gift-giving in orphanages, and even a painting a mural in a public high school. This is their 8th year of volunteering.
Together with other volunteers from U! Happy Events, the SnB members divided their time between cooking and preparing the food to be served, and keeping the kids entertained with songs and games until lunch was ready. The kids played hula hoop relay and paint me a picture. Two very popular games that is always fun to play with big groups!
Once the tables were set, it was a matter of assisting the children, making sure they all ate and behaved properly. It was tiring work, but the smiles on the kids’ faces when they partook of the feast laid out before them (fried chicken, pancit, iced tea, and tiramisu for dessert) made their efforts all worth it.
“Iba talaga ang high na nakukuha pag nakakatulong ka sa iba,” says SnB member Michelle Uy-Que.
“SNB Gives Back is more than just a way for us to share our blessings to the less fortunate,” says another barkada member, Ate Te Candano. “It’s also a way we learn to stay humble and grounded, to remind us that while we may face problems and stresses, they are nothing compared to the hardships faced by others.”
Everyone left He Cares that day with smiles in their faces and lightness in their hearts. It was really a fulfilling way to spend a Saturday morning.
