767 Share the Love and Light with Anchor Philippines and Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid

Written by Board Member, Kuya Matthew Chua
June 11, 2016 became an instant escapade for our team as we went all the way to Pulilan, Bulacan to help materialize an event dubbed as #ShareTheLoveAndLight with Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid (2KK) and Anchor Philippines. Thier #ShareTheLoveAndLight is a Back-to-school event that runs on its fourth year now. This year’s event was attended by 293 scholars; 280 of which are from Magda Enoc Foundation and 13 were from 2KK.
Upon the arrival of scholars to the retreat place, they were asked to register and were given notebooks and pens for them to write and reflect on ten (10) things that made them thankful for. Scholars went to different spots of the venue and tried recalling all those things. The venue’s nature-rich feature made their journey of self-reflection more effective.
When volunteers and speakers arrived, scholars were asked to assemble to officially start the program proper. The program began with a prayer, followed by the national anthem, then followed by words of motivation from a scholar – who just graduated Cum Laude, and opening remarks by Kritzia Santos.
When the program has officially opened, scholars were asked to go to their respective groups and assigned facilitators. Each group was given a specific area to stay for the workshop proper. The goal of the workshop was to teach scholars to have a heart for service, have a goal end in mind, and confidence.
All nine (9) groups were only given two (2) different workshops to work on due to the interest of time. These workshops were “Nutrition and Health” by Brendie Araullo, “Go for the Goal, Aim for the Best” by Micah Sarajan and Basty Santiago, “Time Management” by Garyl Porter, “Persona” by Sherlyn Mercado, “Maximum Intelligence” by Maxine Mamba, “Goal Setting” by Mel Nava, “Public Speaking” by Harvard Uy de Baron, and “Commitment to Excellence” by Mich Talavera.
The end of workshops led to the start of plenary session. Here, scholars were given the chance to listen to Ms. Sabrina “Sab” Ongkiko, a known teacher for a public school. Ms. Sab made a synthesis of the entire event that took place and explained why scholars need to learn from those experiences. The gist of her talk was
“Gawing magaling ang iba, gamit ang iyong galing na galing sa Diyos.”
The event ended with a closing prayer, group shots, and distribution of school supplies. This event was made possible by HOO Center for Dermatology, Benedictine International School, Fr. Jomar Sibug, Alexis L. Santos, U! Happy Events and Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid (2KK)
All 293 scholars went home equipped not just with school supplies, but with knowledge and skills that they may use for this upcoming school year and school years to come. Life of a scholar is [indeed] a challenge for they aren’t just expected to earn high grades, but also expected to show great excellence in whatever endeavour they want to take.
