543 SGS Philippines’ Quiz Bee with San Antonio Elementary School

It’s always a treat for us to work with companies who share our mission of reaching out and giving support to children–who not only do the aforementioned, but also provide avenues for their employees to be involved in helping the community, as well as individuals outside their workforce. One of the companies who has been regularly sharing this mission with U! Happy Events is SGS, or Société Générale de Surveillance.
In celebration of our country’s National Nutrition Month this July, SGS thought of creating an event for kids that would help shed importance on proper nutrition, and sought our help to put the plan into action. Last July 16, we all headed to San Antonio Elementary School in Makati, for our first event there.
30 students from San Antonio’s fourth grade classes joined our Nutrition day, which we started off by pairing each volunteer with a child. Grouping everyone into ten teams, we asked the participants to get to know each other first so that the children would be comfortable spending time with their ates and kuyas. Kuya Harvard then randomly called on five pairs for a surprise game, to which he asked the pairs to dance the wildly popular ‘Nae Nae’. After choosing a winner via audience impact, we then went on to the segment we were really excited for, which was Quiz time.
Segmented into 3 rounds of easy, medium, and difficult, the afternoon’s U! Happy Events’ Quiz Bee was all about Nutrition, for the children to learn how to eat and live well through a fun way. The announcement of the game itself already got everyone pumped up but to add to the excitement, bonus points were to be given–if a team got the answer right, more points would be awarded if they were able to act/sing/draw the answer depending on Kuya Harvard’s direction. It was a tight game all throughout the rounds, but in the end it was Team Friendly, or Team number 2, who won it all! Everyone learned a lot through the quiz though, even the volunteers and the core team–including the fact that bananas belong to the berry family.
After the quiz, we awarded all the winners with storybooks as prize and then proceeded to merienda time. To cap off the fun, educational day, SGS employees gave goodie bags to the little ones, which included school supplies and fruits! A group photo soon followed, after which the volunteers and the kids bade each other goodbye through heartwarming hugs. Thank you to SGS and San Antonio Elementary School for an awesome, nutrition-filled afternoon!
