870 Romarcom’s Snowman with International Teams Tender

Written by President, Ate Te Candano
For someone based in QC, it is always a pleasure driving to Alabang to see the kids from IT Tender. They are always a very responsive bunch whenever we introduce new volunteers to them. This was the same case last Dec 11 when we visited IT Tender with close to 50 volunteers from Romarcom International Marketing Corporation, a Commodities Brokerage firm based in the South. As part of their Christmas CSR, the employees decided to bring good tidings and cheer to the kids from IT Tender Ministry.
The kids were all divided into 5 groups and it was a matter of time when the volunteers were distributed per group. As what we usually practice every start of the event, we have getting to know you questions for the kids and volunteers to get acquainted and be comfortable with each other throughout the whole event. We asked everyone to introduce themselves, as the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up and what their favorite thing to do during Christmas. A lot of kids wanted to be doctors, teachers and policemen. What they enjoy about Christmas is being with their family during noche buena, opening presents and going to Church. After everyone were already chummy with each other, it was high time for us to play some games.
The volunteers and kids were divided into 5 teams. Each of them named their groups: Team Healthy, Team Happy, Team Sucat Boys, Team Seven Dwards and Team Quezo De Bola. Since we had limited space in IT Tender’s place, we decided to have games that will not entail everyone to move around. First up was our game called In or Out where we use a hula hoop as our prop for each group. This was situated at the center of each team. Object of the game was to get people inside whenever a category was given that applies to them. It was Ate Amy who helped us with categories with kids and adults going in and out of the hula hoop. It was a struggle sometimes to get everyone in the hula hoop but our Ates and Kuyas were very much game in playing this very fun game.
Next up was our game called Pass the Items. Everyone would be seated in a circle wherein 2 items were passed around. For this case, we had a pencil and eraser to be passed around. When the music was playing, the teams should pass around these two items. When the music stops, they are given an action/shape that they have to do which were a Heart, Bible, Smile, Cross and even the famous Karate Kid pose. Everyone seemed to have found the game to be easy so we decided to put some twist and challenge the group. On some rounds, we added another action to the shape like for example, a beating heart, a jumping cross and even a dancing smile. It got the kids and adults very competitive as they followed the instructions we give. After about 5 rounds, a team emerged as a winner for being the best in following the instructions given to them.
It was on to the day’s workshop activity with the Sock Snowman led by Ate Amy. With Christmas day a few weeks away, Ate Amy taught the kids how to make their very own miniature snowman using some socks and a few additional accessories.
As the groups were all tired from the 2 games played, everyone were ready for some merienda. We served the kids and volunteers yummy Jollibee spaghetti and drinks. You can hear the chatter from the kids as they recount the games that transpired. Eating time always equates to more bonding time for everyone. Gift giving followed next with the kids lining up and the volunteers from Romarcom International gave out baon packs and school supplies to the kids. After which, Mr. RJ Angeles, head of Romarcom International gave a message to all the kids present that day. He emphasized the value of education and how it is important in achieving their dreams in life. He also reminded the kids to listen to their parents and even teachers as they know what is best for the kids. True enough, our event in IT Tender showed the kids how one can succeed with much hard work and dedication clearly shown with the heart of the volunteers to help and be a blessing to the kids that afternoon.
