725 Primer Group of Companies’ Camp with CCT

Written by Core Team Leader, Ate Monica Molina
As children, we all probably dreamt of camping- pitching a tent, eating s’mores, singing by the bonfire and staying under the stars overnight. To experience the “great outdoors” is something that most children wish for. Thanks to the Center for Outdoor Recreation and Expedition (C.O.R.E), 60 kids of Center for Community Transformation (CCT) were given the chance to experience exactly that.
CORE is the advocacy arm of the Primer Group of Companies and it aims to provide support to environmental conservation, ecotourism and community development for the greater good of the environment. In line with their advocacy, CORE chose CCT, a Christian organization that aims to fight poverty by serving poor urban and rural communities all over the country, to be a part of “This Side Out, Youth Summer Camp”.
The two-day event was definitely full of exciting activities- both educational and fun! Aside from several games and contests, the children learned and experienced basic camping essentials, such as how to pitch a tent, how to cook in camp, how to maintain a campsite and basic first aid procedures. Through the activities (especially during the bonfire!), the children got to bond with the CORE and UHappy volunteers. The children were also taught on the importance of pursuing their dreams. This was done through an inspirational talk by Kuya Gado Pelingo and Kuya Aga Casidsid, who are tandem marathon runners. The two shared to the children how they manage to continue to manage their goals and dreams as marathon runners despite of Aga’s disability of being completely visually impaired.
This Side Out is definitely a fun and different experience for the kids. Throughout the weekend, the excitement and joy were seen in their faces. Surely, it would be an experience that they would not forget!
