51 Plant Kids with Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid

Written by Kuya Harvard

Plant Kids finally happened since Kuya Harvard and Ate Joanna first planned it last February. After constant reminders to all volunteers- everybody was up as early as sunrise for 8AM call time at McDo Commonwealth.

We took time to gather everyone there for pancakes and orange, short orientation and encourage bonding among our excited volunteers. It’s a good thing we had enough vehicles to convoy to our next destination- Amlac Subdivision.

A short walk was needed from Amlac to La Mesa Eco Forest planting site. It was at the shed we met and paired our 70 volunteers to 70 kids of Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid- Payatas. “We had a short mini game to break the ice”, says Kuya JB. “The first team to find their pair wins a prize.”

After a much detailed discussion on 5Ws and 1H on planting trees by Kuya Abe from ABS CBN Bantay Kalikasan, everyone eagerly proceeded to a 10 minute trek. “It was a beautiful site when we got there states Ate Malou, one of U! Happy Events board of trustees. “The location was beside the La Mesa Dam, surrounded by diverse types of trees!”

The actual tree planting only took 5 minutes per pair. The real challenge was getting there. The trail was muddy and lots of tall grass. Sometimes the harder the journey, the more fulfilling it is. The pictures paints how rewarding it was. “Today, you plant a tree, you leave a legacy”, says Kuya Harvard as the pack gathered back at the shed.

The day was still young. We proceeded to another convoy for La Mesa Eco Park. The group was divided for ecological tour into 3 groups- headed by Ate Joanna, Ate Malou and Kuya JB. “It was a time for the pairs to learn more about the environment and experience each other”, expounds Ate Joanna.

The last stop of Plant Kids ended at Narra Pavilion. It was here when everyone finally relaxed for lunch and chat. Kuya JB entertained everyone after with his usual magic. “We have magic almost every event as it is a powerful tool to entertain and use to glorify God”, Kuya JB shares.

The kids were up next to show what they got. They prepared a Christian song and a rendition with dance of late Michael Jackson’s Heal the World. Most volunteers consider this part as the sweetest, most memorable moment of every U! Happy Event.

We distributed profiles of Kids, tree planting certificates and sold artworks right after. “Thank you everyone for the time you took to bless the Kids, says Ate Kritzia, head of Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid. They would not forget what happened today- ever! 

QTV was also present in Plant Kids to cover it. Watch for its showing on August 8, 6PM. Thank you for those who pledged for the Kids educational fund. This was the main purpose of this U! Happy Event.

These are the next U! Projects in mind: Medical Mission, Kids Camp, Art workshop, Kids Got Talent, Kids Church, Movie, Ocean Park, Fashion Show, Dinner for a Cause. Please share your thoughts. Thank U! 🙂
