260 Oplan Salubong Christmas Party

Written by Kuya Harvard

Kuya Harvard, founder of U! Happy Events had the opportunity to be part of the Oplan Salubong which was held at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. It was then handled by The Philippine Army Officers Ladies Club, DSWD and a number of volunteers who had the heart to serve our survivors arriving from Tacloban City, Leyte. It was the most hard hit area from the devastation of typhoon Yolanda. Kuya Harvard shared the responsibility of making sure operations on the ground were running efficiently. He also was able to invite a number of core team to take part of the volunteer efforts there.

After it was fully turned over to the government last November 21, our team decided to come up with a party to celebrate volunteerism. There were more than a hundred volunteers who came in our get together at the Clubhouse in Villamor Air Base last December 2. Kuya Harvard happily hosted and organized it with the core team.

To make our gathering more festive and memorable we had two games. The first one was pass the charades. The theme were the different committees you can volunteer in. Some of the ones mentioned were marshalls, oplan hatid, food runner, nanay bayanhihan, medical, etc. The second was a Christmas presentation. Since the costumes that night were Philippine flag colors, Kuya Harvard divided the teams into 4- yellow, red, blue and white. They then performed Christmas songs assigned to them.

It was truly a humbling experience to serve and hear stories from our kababayans in Eastern Visayas. We continue to pray and will find ways to give them a better life. Thank you for all those who were part of Oplan Salubong!
