694 Nocon Family’s Christmas Reindeer with Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid

Written by Board Member, Ate Ren dela Cruz
It is one thing to be able to touch hearts even when far away, and it is another to do so and encourage your family and friends to reach out as well. Such was the case of ate Charina Nocon-Johnson, who, despite being abroad still reached out to U! Happy Events through the help of her family just so they could bring smiles to the kids of Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid (2KK) come Christmastime.
With 40 kids from 2KK ready and rearing to start that afternoon, the Nocons and their friends arrived excitedly and were assigned groups to be able to begin bonding with the children. Before starting with the program proper though, kuya Harvard called all the ates and kuyas in front for a fun introduction, wherein they each had to do a 30-second dance after they share their names to the children. This is always such a fun experience as the kids warm up to the volunteers quite easily when they see them having a good time.
After funny introductions came gametime — first was a game that had rubber balls flying everywhere as the kids and volunteers giddily passed it around for their assigned number to be called! Next up was Inside Out, a game involving Hula Hoops which everyone would use to determine who would be In, or Out of the hoop depending on kuya Harvard’s category. Both games required speed and attention, and it was just so much fun seeing the Nocon family and our other volunteers coaching and interacting with the children.
To get the kids rested after such energetic activities, we called on the day’s workshop instructer, Ate Pia, who was to teach the kids how to make 3D paper reindeers! We distributed the art materials to each group and ate Pia got the ball rolling. After some time and much help from their ates and kuyas to create and decorate the reindeers, the kids finally showed off their finished products — wonderful and unique reindeers each reflecting the kids’ favorite colors and personalities.
After the workshop came merienda, to fill everyone’s hungry tummies. But the surprises weren’t over yet, as kuya Harvard announced that the Nocon family would be giving away Christmas Ham and gifts for all the children! To their delight, each kid claimed a hamon for their family and a gift for themselves which the volunteers happily handed out. To capture such a memorable Christmas party, we had several photos and even a video (featured below). Thank you ate Charina, the Nocons, and everyone who supported the event!
