288 No Speed Limit Run with Ateneo Special Education Society

Written by Kuya Harvard

In the wee hours of morning of February 9, 2014, ten of our core team from U! Happy Events rose up early to ‘run for someone special’ that day. U! Happy Events was given the opportunity to support “NO SPEED LIMIT” (NSL), an annual benefit run held by Ateneo Special Education Society.

Ateneo Special Education Society (SPEED) is an organization that aims to raise funds and awareness to support institutions that cater to individuals with special needs. The group’s vision is for these individuals to be fully accepted from the society. The beneficiary of No Speed Limit 2014 is the Kaisahan ng Magulang at Anak Na May Kapansansan (KAISAKA) Inc., a community-based rehabilitation program (CBR) for persons with disabilities and their respective families.

So that day, we equipped ourselves with willing hearts, pumped up bodies, and determined minds to complete the 5k run from the Ateneo de Manila University and back– traversing throughout Marcos Highway. Also participating in the marathon with us were the Special children and their families– some of them in wheelchairs, and some of them hand-in-hand with their parents or siblings. It was indeed heartwarming to see how much they were enjoying the fun run with their families.

It did not matter if we finished first or last, or if we did a marathon or a walkathon. What mattered was we finished the race for these individuals, who are special in every way.
