289 ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra’s Musicoveries with UNO Kids

Written by Kuya Harvard

Did you know research suggests that students who listen to classical music right before their test can score better on their math exams? Music can also increase students’ confidence, improve language skills, and help them appreciate culture. There are indeed many reasons why being in touch with music is essential, especially for the youth.

The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra reached out to the Filipino youth. U! Happy Events was one of the many recipients of a free concert for public school students from Grades 4-6. It was entitled “Musicoveries” held at the Aliw Theatre last February 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Five thousand students enjoyed the audio-visual performances that both gave learning and amusement while showing the inner workings of an orchestra and the relevance of orchestral music today. The program included an introduction to the orchestral instruments, a demonstration of how music can make the same film scene produce different emotions, how a story can be told with only melodies, and much more. This exposure to the beauty of live symphonic music was capped by a surprise performance of actor, Xian Lim.

After the concert, we brought the UNO kids for merienda in KFC and gave them 2 story books from our recent Love Story campaign.
