145 Victory Fort Kids Church Celebrates with World Vision

Written by Kuya Harvard

It was a dream come true for Kuya Harvard when we finally got to partner with Kids Church of Victory Fort. He started reaching out to kids “full time” back in 2003, when he was invited to take part of Sunday school once a month. He valued most interacting and doing various activities with kids as part of their vision of reaching out to the next generation.

This among other things inspired him to put up U! Happy Events years after. It was like Kids Church outside of church. U! Happy Events focused on partnering less fortunate kids with able individuals and groups through events. To date, we had put together 144 events as of July 2012.

Finally last July 28, Kids Church and U! Happy Events partnered for a charity event for 137 kids of Pateros Elementary School. It was also in partnership with World Vision and Petron Tulong sa Aral Program who both provided the connection for us.

Besides providing an activity for Kids, Kids Church sponsored a simultaneous livelihood program for the mothers. Ms. Grace Eliscupdez taught around 95 parents on jewelry making. Her husband, Pastor Jeff did a powerful parenting seminar after. “We believe in livelihood as it empowers parents” , says Kuya Harvard. “This makes us more involved in creating better opportunities for kids”, he adds. (See photos in the last part.)

The program with kids was almost a replica of how they do it in their church. After the volunteers and kids were partnered off on , we proceeded with the game, Bahay, Bata, Bagyo! It was a hit among all participants. “They really personified Bagyo everytime we would scream it”, Kuya Benj quips. The game requires people to form groups with the Bahay as volunteers, Bata as kids and Bagyo as the storm. They had to form the group the hosts will say before the storm hits hard.

Next was praise dance. U! Happy Events recently adopted this from Kids Church. Dance energizes so it was a great idea to add it in every big event we do. Ate Raquel led everyone with songs! She is the team admin in the 4th week of Kids Church. Last month, she became an official part of the U! team leaders as well.

Pastor Mark Tusoy who heads Kids Church, shared a short word on Jesus. It was mixed with a skit on Jesus and His disciples by the pre-school volunteers. To be able to explain more about what Pastor Mark said, huddle time followed. It was a on time between the kid and the volunteer. The volunteer was also encouraged to pray for their partnered kid.

While waiting for the parents to arrive from their seminars, praise dance leaders had another song on their belt. The long but very productive morning ended with salo-salo with the kids, volunteers and parents.

Thanks again to Kids Church for co-laboring with us. Thank you to World Vision and Petron for entrusting us Pateros Elementary School. Thanks as well to sponsors, Funlipix for the Photo Booth and Spalsh for the products for our volunteers! 🙂
