943 JCI Manila’s Medical Mission with Elsie Gaches Village Outreach

Written by Kuya Harvard
JCI Manila, one of the most prominent chapter of Jaycees International headed this much needed medical mission with Elsie Gaches. They were also joined by members of JCI Alabang. Elsie Gaches Village provides assistance to many abandoned children, around 470 who suffer from a range of mild to severe mental disorders. It is a center that provides constant care and resources to help support their every day life.
When our team arrived the JCI members were busy attending and facilitating the medical related activities already. Our main task was to provide entertainment and we did this by teaching a number of children origami, the art of folding paper. We went in after a series of story telling was conducted by one of the esteemed members of JCI Manila. It took awhile to teach some on how to make a rose. It was so much worth it though when they smiled with glee after accomplishing the task.
After our short activity, I and Iris also got to tour the big compound which is likely a number of hectares. It was divided into a number of houses where each one was separated by gender and cases. Social workers facilitate in much dedication in each home to make their lives better.
