“Combating Trafficking Across an Island Nation” is their catchphrase for their group. International Justice Mission is a global organization that protects the poor from violence in the developing world. Rescuing victims, bringing criminals to justice, restoring survivors and strengthening justice systems are the strong pillars of who they are and what they really do in today’s society.
International Justice Mission collaborated with U! Happy Events to rekindle the spirit of Christmas among the clients of the said organization. It is comprised of young children to late adolescents, boys and girls. Our event was held at Corinthians Clubhouse, Ortigas last 7th of December. The theme is Inside Out — a beautiful story of emotions where Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear are all inevitable to be felt, was apt for the occasion as it is also true in the real scenario of living.
Struggles and battling their inner self are some of the hardships that their clients face but for the day, our goal was to uplift their spirits into a different level where only happiness and joy will prevail. We wanted them to forget about their sadness, anger, fear and disgust, and wanted them to feel that it was their day to enjoy and wherein there was no place for negative emotions. The day’s goal was to make them smile and be happy, because only then are we also happy.
Our very own Founder and U! Happy host, kuya Harvard started off the program and engaged with the audience. With happy music playing loudly, he encouraged everyone to introduce themselves by forming them in groups and doing our customary getting to know. After getting acquainted with each other, the games commenced! In each game they played, acted, gave their full effort to win, and shouted “Merry Christmas!” at the end to celebrated the victories of the teams which won. The crowd was alive and energetic the entire time.
Our young clients unveiled their outstanding performances and I was personally totally amazed with the way they interpreted the song and the way they grooved their body when dancing! If I really do know how to sing and dance or at least one of those, I will be in cloud nine for sure but sad to say, I cannot! Attorney Sam once told me “It’s all by Grace by our God!” that these people came full of hope, and continue to keep their faith towards their victorious future.
The time came that we have to end the program, but before we capped off the day IJM surprised them with a bunch of gifts. It was a lovely moment to witness our dear Ates and Kuyas share their blessings among their clients. Actually, they are not simply clients of the IJM staff as I have observed. They are truly a FAMILY, fighting for one goal, for one reason. We salute you IJM staff for pouring your love to these kids. Happy Christmas from us!
