457 HSBC’s Art in Island with Gentle Hands

Written by Core Team Leader, Mikel Jacinto
On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the U! Happy Events team invaded Arts in Island located along 15th Street in Cubao, alongside the Fort and Alabang Team of HSBC and the kids from Gentle Hands, Inc.
The event began outside the Arts in Island building, with a simple pairing off activity. As there was an equal number of kids and volunteers, they were asked to find the counterpart who had the same number on their name tag. The first 5 pairs were given a special prize… dance in front of everyone! It was a great way to break the ice and bring up the excitement for the upcoming activity.
After this, everyone lined up in order to get into the Art in Island building. A group picture was taken at the entrance. Everyone was already practicing their picture perfect poses in preparation for what was in store for them the rest of the way. If you’re not familiar with what Art in Island is about, they are basically giant painting installations that serve as optical illusions. So when you take a picture at just the right angle, it looks like you’re a part of the painting. The effect is really amazing!
The volunteers with their partner kids all had such a blast discovering all the different paintings inside. From crossing the dessert to surfing the waves to entering a secret garden, there was no end to all the incredible sights Art in Island had in store. Thousands of pictures must have been taken that afternoon, in an attempt to capture not just the painting but the moment surrounding it.
After everyone had their fill of wandering around and seeing the paintings, the group gathered downstairs at the cafeteria where snacks and drinks were served. Trying to get the perfect picture sure works up the appetite! The kids and volunteers were able to have their profile exchange while this was going on, and each person brought home a little something to remember the day by.
It was definitely an unforgettable day for everyone. If you haven’t had the chance to check out Art in Island yet, you should hop to it already! Huge thanks to the HSBC team for choosing to share this experience with the Gentle Hands Kids and of course the U! Happy Events Team.
