1092 Guild Insurance’s Christmas at Nicanor C. Garcia Sr. Elementary School, Makati

Written by: Kuya Glenn Costales, President

As the Christmas celebrations were abounding, so were the people who want to share their blessings to others. The Sunday morning introduced us to a set of volunteers from Guild Insurance (As White) – an Australian-based insurance brokerage company. This activity was part of their Christmas outreach and they gathered 25 bouncy kids from the elementary school at the heart of Makati City.
The volunteers easily shrugged off whatever Sunday sluggishness they had at the sight of the keen and frisky kids. They introduced themselves first before joining the 5 groups we had already organized. They got comfortable with each other while sharing their favorite games and food with the kids also mentioning what they wanted to be when they grew up.
With our groups settled in, we played the Replacements game. This game called for a representative from each group to memorize a specific picture of a group people and whole bunch of poses and facial expressions. The representative then had to direct their members to copy exactly (or as close as they can) the photo shown. The closest team got the point. A few of the kids were quite the revelation as they quickly memorized the poses and clearly instructed their teammates what to do – even doing better than their ates and kuyas.
The next game we played needed a lot more teamwork with the Beach Ball relay. While lined up in pairs, the groups squeezed a beach ball in between their bodies and raced around an obstacle. No one tumbled along the way but everyone sure had fun in this light but competitive contest.
It was then on to a colorful showcase of twisting artistry by Ate Divine for a Balloon Twisting performance. The kids’ eyes widened as they witnessed how those elongated and vibrant balloons transformed into pleasing shapes and animals.
The volunteers and kids then spent some more time together over a tasty lunch. The winning team’s prizes were also handed out during this time. As a parting Christmas gift, the volunteers finally handed out Art Materials to the kids. This kids definitely approved of this as they are sure to use it to nourish their creative and vibrant spirits.
Thank U to the volunteers from Guild Insurance for their sincere hearts in making their time with the kids truly worthwhile. Merry Christmas to U!
