746 Giving is Social’s CrossRoads Workshop

Our team at U! Happy Events believe that volunteering isn’t just an event, but a lifestyle. Given this, we believe as well in not only creating meaningful and sustainable events for marginalized children, but also in equipping our volunteers and leaders in knowing how to best further their mission to be a helping hand to the needy.
Last Saturday, April 30, we partnered with Singapore-based NGO Giving is Social, an initiative spearheaded by U! Happy Ambassador ate Jo-E, for a one-day workshop that aimed to do just that—-to equip volunteer leaders and all those with a passion to help the underprivileged, via the CrossRoads module. The event was held at The Office Project in Salcedo Village, Makati, and was taught by Lynn Nawata of Day2 International. The workshop was taken from the internationally-accredited CrossRoads curriculum, which teaches participants in breaking poverty mindsets to help the poor & disadvantaged without creating dependency & entitlement. Originally a 4-day training course, the workshop took its most integral excerpts from it to show the participants just how important knowing the right way to help should be. CrossRoads has been certified by the UNHCR, the Colorado Department of Human Services, and the governments of Norway, Hungary and Slovakia.
26 participants trooped to The Office Project for a full-day of learning, and came from diverse backgrounds such as NGOs, social enterprises, volunteer management teams, and the like. The workshop was composed of lateral thinking puzzles, group activities, and individual sharing time. The day ended with a group photo, and time to get to know each other as well as discuss how best to apply the learnings we all got from the very informative module. The next CrossRoads Workshop will be held this coming July. We would like to thank our participants for their sincerity and passion in helping the underprivileged, in the best way possible!
