752 Games with Lifesavers

Written By Ate Maxine Mamba, Founder of Life Savers
It was a bright and happy morning for the kids at Panganiban, Concepcion Dos Marikina, when U! Happy Events and YLAM’s Lifesaver program brought some summer fun. The event started at 10AM with 15 little kids, and a troop of 52 followed shortly after being gathered from a nearby settlement area.
We started the event with a short talk on how doing good gives you good things in life and the great opportunity to talk with the most important and only God during prayer. The kids listened and attentively put it into practice as we centered ourselves in prayer before the fun and games.
Kuya Harvard got the ball rolling and the kids laughing with some group games. Everyone was up on their feet making silly gestures to win the prize. Veteran volunteer, Ate Iane and her beau Kuya Christian, as well as Kuya Kapao were on ground to rally the kids and help decide on the winners.
The whole Gym of Summer Homes rocked with upbeat music and excited squeals as we all cheered for our group mates. The winners received award-winning books from Filipino authors courtesy of U! Happy Events. After sharing a Jolly meal, and a whole lot of games, the kids stampeded to hug our volunteers as a hearty thank you for making their morning a happy one. Surely, the feeling was mutual.
Many people look at volunteers and they think that they get nothing for all their sweat, time, and even monetary sacrifice. It may seem that way from a totally pragmatic perspective, but human beings are more than we seem. We have a soul that rejoices in giving, and there is in a sacrifice where you know there is no return, a joy that is of the highest calibre. It rings true to our souls that know where it came and which kingdom it will return to. In the bible, it is said, “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” True life is to live for the soul, and the gift of this is true happiness.
Another way the bible puts it is, “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” But few know the secret that our true enjoyment lies in giving, and in creating connections with people through smiles, hugs and well-thought of acts of kindness. Indeed, it is a treasure that our volunteers have found, and have hid for ourselves in our hearts, and have exchanged things of this world for. We hope that you can receive this happiness with us soon!
