550 Ate Melissa Celebrates with Children’s Joy Foundation

Birthdays are always a great milestone for a person, and a cause for celebration. It becomes so much more meaningful though when the celebration is done through giving back, as is the case of Ate Melissa and her good friends ate Donna and Ate Sheryl. They along with friends and family, all headed to Children’s Joy Foundation in Quezon City last July 28 in for an afternoon filled with joy and giving to celebrate the brand new year in their lives.
25 kids of different ages were part of the fun that afternoon, and were full of excitement despite the rainy weather. We started with the customary Getting to Know, which had the volunteers introducing themselves in front and being asked to act out their favorite cartoon character. After a round of laughter the volunteers were then assigned groups and had some more time to discuss favorites with the children.
With everyone bonding quite nicely, we then proceeded to our games–first up was In or Out, a fun game with Hula Hoops where Kuya Harvard called out specific conditions–like those with eyeglasses, or those who eat pork–to be either in or out of the hula hoop. The first team to correctly follow his direction wins a point. For this game, the team led by ate Melissa won!
For our second game we did Around the World, which consisted of teams recreating scenarios unique to the country Kuya Harvard says. As a twist, we gave teams four balls each, and required them to use the balls in creating the scenes, encouraging them to enhance their creativity. After the winners were declared we then handed out snacks to refuel everyone’s energy. While eating, ate Melissa, ate Donna, and their friends distributed the many gifts they had for the kids that day! These included school supplies, snacks, storybooks, toys, and hygiene kits! The group were also able to donate clothes and canned goods for the orphanage.
Before proceeding with our group photo to end the event, the kids had their own surprise in store–they performed a lively medley of songs while dancing, ending with a birthday song that had ate Donna in tears of joy. Following that was the photo op, capping off the day filled with so much blessings. We would like to thank everyone who took part in the event. Surely birthdays are more memorable when spent giving back to those in need.
