413 Ate Mariz Christmas with Living Faith in Jesus Ministry

Written by Board Member, Matthew Chua

Very heavy traffic, which discourages people to go out and travel, has been around Metro Manila this Christmas season. People chose to stay at home rather than spend most of their time being stuck on the road. The occurrence of a very heavy traffic made volunteering a very challenging one.

December 13, 2014 was the scheduled date for our Story Telling at Living Faith in Jesus, which is located at Las Piñas City. Travelling to the south is a really big challenge for everyone especially to our sponsors – Ate Mariz Remigio together with her non comp bookings team (Ate Jane, Ate Lara, and Kuya Marvin).
While waiting for everyone’s arrival, the core team entertained kids by asking them different questions, by grouping them, by letting them know their group mates, and by playing their favorite game – tamagochi.

When our sponsors arrived, we immediately guided them to their assigned groups and started the event. We played “Paint Me a Christmas Picture” to exercise kids’ and sponsors’ creativity in acting out different scenarios seen during Christmas. We also played “Bato, bato, pick” (with U! Happy Events’ twist). Each person was given ten (10) stickers and the goal was to collect as many stickers as they could by competing with one another. The winner gets one (1) sticker from his/her losing opponent. The winner of this game was Ate Lara.

Story telling came in next. The story “Wako the Kwago” was animatedly delivered by kuya Jay of Adarna Publishing. Sponsors expounded the lesson of the story by reminding kids to study very hard and to always listen to their parents.

Though started really late, the event was successfully concluded with warm hugs and sweet farewells. This simply shows that no matter how big those obstacles may be, dedication and determination will always be around. Heavy traffic is not an excuse for sponsors and volunteers, who are very willing to help and inspire kids.
