848 Ate Lei and Ate Glai Celebrates with National Children’s Hospital

Written by Core Team Leader, Ate Suszie Galang
It was a sunny Sunday afternoon and we visited the ward at National Childrenā€™s hospital at Quezon City. The Ates and Kuyas were clearly excited to visit the children and celebrate Ate Leiā€™s and Glaiā€™s birthday as they arrived early.
While gathering the kids, we got Ate Lei and Glaiā€™s friends around to get to know each other as volunteers. After that, we partnered them with a kid and asked them to each other their names, favorite games and what the kids want to be when they grow up. For the volunteers, what they do professionally. Most of the kids wanted to be policemen and doctors.
Next, we played a game called ā€œShow Me Your Faceā€. This game is where we give the volunteers and the kids a scenario and they do their best to act it out with various facial expressions. We got them to constipation and what their reaction would be if they met their favorite actor.
After that exciting game, we had the magic show, the magician, Kuya Rico, showed many tricks like lifting the table off the floor and different card tricks. The kids were so captivated, they want to be like the magician. After this it was time for a more relaxed activity- story telling. The volunteers took the time to be more intimate through this session.
We had meal time and proceeded for gift giving right after. We also requested to have pictures with each other for remembering the moment. As we said our goodbyes to the children, we also thanked Ate Lei and Glai through a birthday song. We also thanked their friends for spending their time with the kids to make them forget about their conditions in the hospital.
