451 Ate Kym’s Valentine Placemat with Living Faith in Jesus Ministry

February 15, 2015 is another busy day for U! Happy Events. We got three simultaneous events happening in different locations of Metro Manila, which lead the core team to be divided into three organizing groups. Our team was assigned to take good care of ate Kym Liwanag’s birthday party at Living Faith in Jesus Ministry, which is located in Las Piñas City.
Since this event was done on a post Valentine’s Day, the entire program was patterned to the theme, which is very familiar to everyone at that moment – love.
The event started with the usual introduction and orientation to kids and volunteers. They were then divided into five (5) groups. Each group was composed of five (5) kids and three (3) volunteers. Groups were given time to introduce themselves with one another, to bond, to create a group name (must be related to love), and to think of strategies.
Games then followed. The first game was “Paint Me a Picture”. Teams were obliged to create scenes showing their love to God, friends, nature, and society. It was a very fun game where teams’ imagination and creativity were pushed beyond their limits. Plus, it gave awareness to kids regarding love’s unlimited boundaries.
The next game was “Pass the Message”. In this game, kids and volunteers need to pay attention to one another in order to deliver the message correctly. Messages were taken from the holy bible. These messages were about the many facets of love – first commandment, John 15:13, and 1 Corinthians 13:4.
Art workshop came in next. Kids were taught how to make their own personalized placemat by using different art materials. Their placemats shows their love for their family. Kids were assisted by volunteers especially when cutting papers. Kids just need to follow three guide actions – guhit (draw), gupit (cut), and dikit (paste). Creativity and emotions of kids were highlighted in this activity.
The event ended with group photos, Ate Kim’s message to everyone, and giving of gifts (Ate Kim also provided her own sets of gifts aside from those prepared by our team). The event is a reminder that though we are different from one another, we are still connected by a common element – love. That very same love, which made our sponsor and volunteers pushed through with this kind of event just to make kids happy.
