175 Ate Kate Celebrates with Philippine General Hospital

Written by Kuya Harvard

We celebrated our 9th Day of Christmas in a special way, to share stories of hope to children battling with cancer. It was held last December 16, 2012 at Philippine General Hospital Atrium. We were privileged to partner with Ms. Kate Gayap, a common friend of ours from JCI Princess Urduja referred us to her. JCI is a former partner.

30 kids with cancer partnered with 45 seasoned and new volunteers from U! Happy Events, Miriam College and JCI were all excited to start the event amidst the rainy weather that day. Their positivity and eagerness not to miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity can’t be backed down.

We started by everyone engaging to parol making which brought their creativity out. Some kids even named their own creations. When the kids found out there will be a best parol, they even got giddier during the activity. We all know that a parol evokes the Star of Bethlehem as it symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and the Filipinos’ hope and goodwill during the Christmas season.

Treats from Cerealicious cooled down everyone as we anticipated the next activities, a Magic and Puppet show. The kids were very happy to watch since most of them are staying in their respective wards with no TV or radio at all. It was fun to see them be amazed with the magic tricks and be attentive with the puppet story telling. We also had games for the participative kids and we wouldn’t miss gift-giving of course in time for the season. We ended the event by dancing to the tune of Oppa Gangnam Style, which has been a terrific hit for the kids.

It was not only good to see the kids happy, but it was also great to see how their parents were so happy as they watched their kids just being kids – dancing, laughing, and enjoying life. May we be inspired by these little fighters to value life more than we do now. Thanks for partnering with us!
