884 Ate Jonahlyn and Friends Celebrate with UNO Kids

Written by U! Happy Events’ Staff, Ate Michaela Maligaya
It could have been another plain Sunday. No classes, no work; just a day to spend at home with the family and rest. But to our new volunteers, this Sunday would be well spent with some kids they don’t even know.
9 individuals with willing hearts and giving souls called upon U! Happy Events to arrange a simple get-together with UNO Kids at Makabata Guest House in Manila. A small group of friends, ates Catherine, Jonna, Rachela, Elsie and kuyas Eman, Philip, Isaac and Roby were joined by our walk in volunteers kuya Justin and Ate Moz. All together, they played all afternoon and spent time using their skills in communication, body coordination, strategy and team work.
The kids were mixed and seated with the ates and kuyas. They were divided into 4 groups with 7 to 8 members for the day’s exercises that challenged everyone’s mental and physical abilities.
First Trial for the groups: Cheese Ring Relay. The groups were given 2 cups; 1 cup full of cheese rings, the other empty. Each member has a straw with him or her, one end clipped between his or her lips. The goal was to transfer all the cheese rings from one cup by passing one ring through the straws to each member to get to the other cup. The group that won earned stars and prize, though one group wasn’t able to finish the relay because the kids ate the cheese rings.
Second Trial: Let’s Conserve Water! Again, 2 cups were given to each group, 1 containing water and the other empty. With the use of a piece of cloth, the group must transfer as much water as they can to the other empty cup.
Third Trial: Cone Heads. Each member of the group was given tiny traffic cones. Math equations were given by kuya Harvard. To win the game, the members had to put these on top of their heads depending on the answer. It was race. There was so much competitiveness around the room.
Fourth Trial: Another trip to transfer water. This time it was through the excess straws we have left. Teams scramble to find the best way to do this. There were different methods use but the most efficient one, team 2 got almost all the water to the other end.
All these trials were happy endings. Not everyone got prizes but they all got to bond wonderfully with one another. The Christmas energy was felt. After these we ended with Jollibee packs of burger and spaghetti. Gift packs were also given to the little ones.
How’s your celebrations going? Ours is too merry.
