925 Ate Jamille’s Dance with Holy Family Home

Written by Core Team Leader, Kristin Ramos
Holy Family Home has been our partner beneficiary since 2013. Holy Family Home is a nonprofit organization managed by the Congregation of the Capuchin Tertiary Sisters of the Holy Family. They provide long-term residential care, protection, and rehabilitation for abandoned, neglected, orphaned, and physically abused young girls. The girls are housed in Pembo, Makati.
Coincidentally, 13 volunteers signed up for our 13th event with Holy Family Home. They all heard about the event on Facebook. Most of the them were group of friends and officemates who wanted to have a meaningful bonding experience. Gladly, they were welcomed by 23 delightful girls whom they will interact with for the rest of the afternoon.
Firstly, volunteers and the girls had a healthy lunch together. They had moments of smiles and laughter as they share stories and tell jokes at the dining table. We all went to the activity area right after eating.
To start off the program, volunteers and the girls were divided into 5 groups of 7 members. Group members introduced themselves to each other with their names. Each member had to share interesting things about themselves as well. They were asked to reveal their favorite cartoon character and favorite ulam to eat when it is 9PM. It was a fun getting-to-know-you activity to liven up the groups.
It was time for some games, brain games! We played trivia games wherein groups were asked to answer random fun questions by stacking paper cups. Everybody enjoyed and felt like geniuses as they learned new interesting facts from this activity. (Did you know that earthworms do not have just one heart? They have FIVE!).
After exercising their brains with trivia games, we had a dance workshop. Everyone got their groove on to Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic”. Dance Instructor, Kuya Japox took them through some routines and they were able to pick up the moves quickly. To cap off the workshop, Kuya Japox and our energetic volunteer, Kuya Allen were surprisingly requested to do a dance showdown. Everyone started cheering as the Kuyas show off their awesome dance moves.
We ended the day by handing out school supplies as gifts to the girls. Then, the girls gave their Ates and Kuyas big hugs and thank yous for spending a wonderful time with them.
