1065 Ate Jackie and friends’ Christmas Outreach with Right Start

Written by: Kuya Glenn Costales, President

The giving season was only getting started as we headed out this time to Right Start in San Juan. Led by Pastor Bernie and his wife, Ate Sale, Right Start provides educational and spiritual support to the poor in the community.
Ate Jackie Pua was at the center of this event together with her husband and several friends. They gathered 25 kids for a day of fun games and vibrant activities.
After having our volunteers introduce themselves, we grouped them with our excited bunch of kids. They too got acquainted with their kuyas and ates.
With our groups in place, we played a pair of games to get everyone even more into it. The 1st one was In and Out. In this game, the groups surrounded and held on to a hula hoop. We then gave out categories that specifically identifies with some members in their groups like those wearing blue, or those with the letter R in their name, etc. These members had to fit inside the hula hoop while the rest stood outside. In some cases, it was the other way around wherein the categories pertained to those who had to stand outside, while the rest crammed inside.
The next game was called Replacements, a unique game where representatives from each group were shown a ‘group photo.’ They then had to memorize the facial expressions and positions as they directed their members to mirror the photo. This was a truly engaging and amusing game while testing our volunteers’ and kids’ memories.
Next up, Ate Divine led the group for a Balloon Twisting activity. She first taught the kids how to make a basic sword. Soon after, she was making all kinds of balloon shapes and figures at the request of our imaginative kids.
After sharing a delightful home-cooked meal, the volunteers brought out TONS of food and presents for the kids to get them ready for their own Christmas celebration. Just take out word for it, it was a lot!
Thank U to Ate Jackie for bringing this event together. The kids surely enjoyed the time with their superb kuyas and ates.
