1051 Ate Istana Celebrates at Art In Island with 2KK Payatas

Written by: Ate Rica Leyritana, Board of Director

Last November 26, a Sunday, I woke up to the text of Flor of 2KK saying that the kids are already on their way to Art in Island. It was 7 a.m. and the call time was not until 9 a.m. But I had to meet them already so I immediately jumped out of bed, groomed myself and went on my way. I arrived at around 8:15 a.m. and the kids were already there. Apparently, it was their first time in Art in Island and they were really excited hence the early arrival. None of them has ever been there and none of them knew what to expect. They just knew that they would be treated to something fun. When I told them that it was a trick museum where in the artworks will create an illusion for them they became really ecstatic! Turns out they like posing and having their photos taken too. So to warm them up for the activity and while waiting for our schedule in Art in Island, we had a little acting game. We played my personal favorite “Pass the Charade.” The mechanics is very simple. The kids will be grouped into three (3) and each group will have to make a line. The game master will then whisper an object which the first player will have to act and the next player in the team will have to guess. The process is repeated until it reaches the last person in the line. Once the last person has guessed the object, he or she has to run in front and tell the game master the secret item. First to correctly guess wins. The topic at that time was animals and the kids were really great in acting them out. Skills unlocked! However, they just had a hard time differentiating a rabbit from a frog and from a kangaroo
We finished the game at around 9 a.m. and it was finally our turn to enter Art in Island! But before we entered the place, we first grouped the kids and sponsors. Ate Istana, the sponsor, and each of her volunteer guests were assigned to a group of kids. After grouping them, we gave them a little time to get to know each other and then we entered Art in Island. The kids were ecstatic when they saw the trick- eye paintings. Each of the kid had his or her own pose for the paintings. It was definitely fun to see them being creative. Around 11 a.m., Art in Island had a little show. They played a 3D video of Noah’s ark. It definitely seemed that the Noah, the ark, the animals and flood were real! The kids were mesmerized. We gave the kids and sponsors a few more time
to go around and after they have finished, we went to their cafe to have some snacks. Eating time always gives the sponsors and kids more time to get to know each other. As soon as the kids finished eating, we sang Ate Istana a birthday song and gave her a cake with a candle to blow. After all, it was her birthday! After that, it was time to say goodbye. The kids said their usual thanks and gave their warmest hugs to our sponsors. But before finally saying goodbye, we had the obligatory group picture and Ate Istana and her family and friends gave out school supplies to the kids.
It was a tiring but most definitely fun day. Hope everyone had a blast because I sure did!
