As part of our Philippine tradition, it is not only on the month of February during Valentine’s Day does love flow in the air. As much as we can, we Pinoys celebrate every occasion pouring our hearts out to achieve full extent. Especially in one of our favorite occasion, Christmas.
It is more than joyful to know that our families and friends outside Philippine boarder line extend their love to share and give. With U! Happy, even our kababayans abroad can reach those who are in need without worrying about the hows in setting the day for them. Today’s sponsor, Gabriel Gabiola, arrived all the way from another country just to celebrate his Christmas with kids under care of Philippine Children’s Medical Center.
30 kids from ages 3 to 10 years old undergoing medication, mostly for leukemia recovery, were blessed to join the Gabiola family in the simple feast to enjoy Christmas. Some parents and guardians also participated. Of course, there were games, prizes and goodies!
Kuya Harvard’s favorite game was first played: Pass The Ball with a Twist. The ball was passed around while the music played. Whoever held the ball when the music stopped posed as given: Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus and Jesus Christ.
To keep the kids entertained, a short balloon twisting tutorial was held. Colorful balloons were transformed into swords, dogs, bunnies, bears, love birds, flowers and guns. The kids got all hyped!
And surprises didn’t stop coming. The Gabiola family brought gifts for everyone. Tons of shoe boxes drowned the kids. Each box contained different surprise inside; toys, books, clothes, shoes. Some were donated by close friends of the family who wanted to extend their love as well. But what set this boxes apart from the other ordinary gift? Each has a letter inside for the child to read to make it more personal.
This simple step of reaching out only proved that anyone can make a difference, even if you’re miles away. The kids from PCMC surely felt more than better for getting enough love from our fellow Filipinos, even if not tied by blood.
