897 Ate Emily Celebrates with SOS Children’s Village

Written by U! Happy Events’ Staff, Ate Michaela Maligaya
As 2016 year ender, the kids from SOS Children’s Village in Alabang were very fortunate to have our sponsor couple to stand as their parents even just for a day. Every year, they try to find a community or institution which they can tap and be their beneficiary for their calling. Celebrating their 23rd anniversary this year as lovely man and wife, the couple have chosen SOS Children’s Village through U! Happy Events.
50 kids plus 15 relatives and friends of the couple sponsor gathered at the village hall for a simple revelry. U! Happy’s very own love team, kuya Glenn and ate Te, headed the celebration. Participants were divided into groups and had their own team names: Cavaliers, Dreamers, Gatorade, Liza De Lima and Yumi Zumi.
To wake all sleeping cells up in everyone’s body, kuya Glenn and ate Te lead an energy-boosting game: the Paper Cup Mathematics. The groups formed a line and each member was given a straw to be clipped in their mouth. At the end of the line, the last member held 10 paper cups. Each round, kuya Glenn and ate Te gave equations and trivia which had a corresponding numerical answer. To win, the last member holding the paper cups must pass the cup one by one using the straw until it reaches the member on the front. First to get the right number of cups at the starting line wins the game. Each team exercised cooperation, communication and team work.
Our sponsor couple surprised the kids with a short Magic Show from our Master kuya Rico. He was also assisted by few of the participant kids, one girl even just had her birthday a few days ago. They made the table levitate, colorful hankies appear from nowhere, and doves flying out of a book. Ate Divine was also there to make a short tutorial on how to twist balloons. The kids had fun making a toy dog from their balloons. Ate Divine also gave away balloons shaped into love bird, toy gun, bunnies and flowers.
After having lunch, the couple gave away their gifts to the kids: biscuits, cupcakes, school supplies and pillows. Smiles and laughter drown the whole hall as every kid received their last gift for this year.
As an act of gratitude and giving back, the SOS kids showcased a short dance number for our sponsors and sang a Christmas song with few hand actions. One of the best ways to end a year! We hope our sponsor couple be a model to all our ates and kuyas out there; that in times where people usually celebrate occasions close to their hearts, they choose to share them with kids who have been calling for love from a family. Thank you so much!
