942 Ate Christle Celebrates with Cottolengo

Written by Kuya Harvard

It was my second time visiting Cottolengo, a safe haven for special children in the far area of Montalban, Rizal. It is privately run and funded by kind hearted individuals, mostly from outside our country. There were around 35 participants with majority of them in wheel chairs and was only able to join by watching or listening to us.
Our recent stop here was made possible by Ate Christle and family who reached out for the second time in two years to arrange an event for them. They were only a bunch and they came along with three beautiful kids. The adults came ready to engage with the children as I prepared two games, simple yet fun to get the interaction and bonding going.
We played trip to Jerusalem with a variation of using hula hoops instead and with a partner guest. This was fun especially when I integrated dancing to it. Another game was more simple but highly requiring team work, build a puzzle first. After these we also had bubble show and a time to eat together. We also gave away school supplies, a gift wherein they can use to write and color in.
Some of the children may have remember me and that strikes me as a volunteer. Their smiles are contagious and inspiring. They give you a smile despite their physical and emotional struggles. Our team left once again but without keeping a constant memory of this place. How about you? Have you been here? Do you wish to come and visit with us too? Let us know, drop us a hello on our contacts us page.
