455 Ate Acel’s Fitness Workshop with Tuklasan

Written by Kuya Harvard
It was another meaningful and yes, happy encounter with children of Tuklasan. We still remember vividly visiting this orphanage last 2007 for a fun run. A number of kids are still there today, all grown up after 8 years.
Ate Chie Gutierrez communicated with us last month to organize a birthday celebration for her friend, Acel. It’s heart warming to know how we get to meet some of our sponsors. In the last few years, it has been mostly through word of mouth. We love being referred to when blessing children.
The fascination and the demand for fitness has grown dynamically. We went ahead and suggested to the celebrant this type of workshop for these very active children. Ate Acel said, Why not? Our workshop head, Kuya Joshua Berin, not only competes regularly, he also teaches fitness professionally.
After a round of getting to know both coming from the volunteers and kids, we started a short lecture about understanding the value of being fit. Kuya Joshua emphasized that we should be enjoying it so we could sustain it in our lifestyle.
Static (in place) and aerobic (moving) exercises followed and this got everyone’s adrenaline moving. This got them even more competitive for the 2 games we prepared: the snake game that used a water balloon and the up and down that utilized 40 cones.
A well deserved merienda of chicken pancit was served. There was fatigue and bodies were tired. It was well worth it. 🙂
