816 Ako Si Josephine Fund Raiser Play

Written by Board Member, Ate Charmain Tan
We had a fundraising event and partnered with the producers of the musical Ako si Josephine. From the makers of Rak of Aegis, the funny musical features the songs of Yeng Constantino. It is written by Liza Magtoto, directed by Maribel Legarda, with musical direction by Myke Salomon. Portions of the proceeds from the tickets sales of the September 30 show was for the benefit of U! Happy Events.
Yeng Constantino is celebrating her 10th year in the music industry by giving us a musical that features her popular songs. Josephine is Yeng’s real name but she chose not to play the part for her forte is “being a singer and songwriter”. The musical opened on September 8 and will run through October 9 at the Philippine Education Theater Association (PETA) Theater Center.
The musical stars Maronne Cruz portraying the titular character Josephine and Joaquin Valdes as her love interest Chinito. Monotomia (portrayed by Jon Santos) runs Allegra, a fictional music empire where only HYP music is allowed. Josephine and her boss Chinito falls in love and tries to write a love song that will evoke the feelings once again of the people who have been hampered by listening to HYP music. There were a lot of “kilig” moments as the story showed Josephine having a crush on Chinito and even more “kilig” moments when it turned out Josephine’s love wasn’t requited after all. The audience laughed and cheered all night as the actors did a really good portrayal of the characters. They played 28 of Yeng’s songs like the popular Hawak Kamay, Chinito, and others. The musical was a reflection of Yeng’s playful and fun music.
It was indeed a fun night and we thank everyone from Ako si Josephine for making U! Happy Events a part of the celebration of Love and Music.
