22 Adopt Kids with Jesus Loves the Little Children Foundation

Written by Kuya Harvard

This project was in partnership with Living Dreams Philippines, our future partner for our next project, Kids Olympics. They call it Adopt a Friend, a 4 week program aimed at adopting kids for a day. We called it, Adopt Kids.

There were 5 of us- core members, Camille and Malou plus first timers, Hac and Ivanna. 6 from Living Dreams, including Terrie from New Zealand and 18 Kids from Jesus Loves His Children Foundation. It was a task looking for the place in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig as we were all strangers in that place. Nevertheless, the day turned out to be a learning and happy experience for all of us.

We started with an ice breaker. So we asked everyone their names, favorite food, top color and who is their idol. Ivanna said, my idol is Sarah Geronimo. I didn’t believe her. One boy said, my top color is pink- we asked him that question throughout the event. He didn’t change his answer. =)

It followed with a short film viewing of Shrek. We stopped it early so we can start playing games. After the partnering was established- 2 kids, 1 happy volunteer, we started with music freeze or stop dance. Our version- no breathing or eye movements allowed- that made it much shorter and exciting. Next was newspaper dance, this was Hac’s opportunity to win as he was the only guy. The picture here said it all- he had to tip toe and carry two boys to top everyone else.

The last game was the best of all. This was our opportunity to show our appreciation to our very generous sponsor, Krispy Kreme. The first team to finish 5 original glazed donuts and hand over the empty box in front wins. The kids get to win 12 more donuts. haha! =) We chose top 3. I don’t think our happy volunteers will be craving for Krispy Kreme anytime soon.

We had short merienda- pancit palabok and zesto with everyone including the staff in the center. It was followed by distribution of prizes and writing of U! make me happy letters to their ate and kuya. The kids wrote touching messages through the art they were doing before we arrived.

We ended with prayers from Benjie and Bea after we distributed gifts from our friends from NAIA. They had very cute prayers. Bea said, Thank you Jesus for today- for the food, and our house and the l)and… what else pa? Amen. =)

Thank U! Living Dreams for the opportunity to serve these kids. Thank U! to our partner volunteers who participated. The next one- Kids Olympics, August 30, 2008.
