Kuya Mon’s Kids Carnival with Little Lights

We had an early jump on the weekend with an eventful gathering last Friday in the familiar community of Little Lights Ministry. Kuya Mon Borromeo, an OFW on vacation from the Middle East, put together a special celebration with a roster of interactive acts to entertain 50 kids from the Cainta-based ministry.

Being a public weekday event, we had a few walk-in volunteers to partake in the merriment. We got started, as always, by allowing our kuyas, ates and kids to be relaxed and at ease with one another. We played 1 game to make sure of this – Pass-the-Ball.

Yes the game indeed involves a ball and a lot of passing. The teams (we had 5 total) simply passed the ball to each member as a song played. It was a race to stand up first for whoever had the ball when the music stopped. It was a good game but the better parts of the event were still to come.

First, we had Ate Marie from Adarna House for an exquisite and inspirational story-telling affair. It was her first time with us and it truly was worth it.

Next up, Kuya Koby took the stage for his magical performance. It’s always fascinating how everyone, regardless of age, seems to get absorbed by a few sleight of hand, bright costumes and dazzling spectacles.

We were then introduced to Kuya Better and his crazy puppet/ friend Junior. Talk about a dynamic (and wacky) duo, these 2 literally finished each other’s sentences. Their witty back-and-forth banter was the quintessential comic relief.

Lastly, it was time to get the kids’ minds blown with a set of science demonstrations by the Philippine Science Centrum. Armed with their lab coats, radiant substances and lustrous flasks, the science guys and girls schooled us as they exhibited some really cool experiments. This certainly was a rare instance when fire, smoke and chemical reactions got cheers.

After the visual treats, we got down to delightful lunch and some cotton candy for dessert. A lot of gifts finally made their way to the kids’ hands. There were school supplies, baon packs and pillows to send the kids off.

Even though he didn’t get to stay, kudos to Kuya Mon for preparing such a wonderful day with Little Lights. We hope you can continue to share your blessings with more people. Bon voyage to you!
