921 Kuya Glenn and Ate Chessika’s Beauty and the Beast with Little Lights

Written by Vice President for External, Ate Chessika Chua
If you would ask me 10 years ago, “How would you like to celebrate your birthday?” I would have answered, “I will become a Princess for a day —wearing my glittering tiara, dancing with my Disney-princess gown, tables and windowsills decorated with flower pedals and plastic jewels, pastel-colored balloons around, showing up in a carriage for a true fairytale entrance, and maybe ending the party with a kiss from my Prince Charming.”
But as we grow old and get more life experiences, our wants and needs also change. In particular, we value these 2 things more as we age:
1. People over presents
2. Time
This is the reason why Kuya Glenn and I decided to celebrate our birthdays together by watching the classic and our all-time favorite movie, Beauty and the Beast with the children of Little Lights Ministry. Little Lights Ministry is a community-based beneficiary of U! Happy Events. They help the children learn, be productive and be determined to live a righteous life in Jesus Christ.
1. People over presents
We started the movie-bonding event by bringing the kids to McDonald’s for their early dinner. It has been said that food brings us together. A simple, “Masarap ba?” “O, kain ka pa!” have actually created a deeper connection between us and the kids. These are the things that we usually take for granted but really make the best part of our days. I guess the older we get, the less we care about presents. In our case, the fact that we can have the kids and U! Happy Events team on our birthday, sharing food and just having great conversations mean a ton more than material things.
2. Time
After our tummies were filled with food and our hearts filled with stories, we were so excited to see Beauty and the Beast at The Podium cinema. I won’t spoil anything about the movie but one thing for sure, the kids and the kids at heart all enjoyed the film’s message of true love, inner beauty, and importance of family. “Tale as old as time..” —an unforgettable story to be carried on to generations to come. Just like the movie, we can also create unforgettable moments by spending time with these kids and other people in need.
As we get older and life gets faster, it’s so easy to be preoccupied with our daily work and other responsibilities. But I am hoping that more of us would be able to share quality time with these kids, for this is one of the few pleasures in life that can cost us very little but reward us substantially.
No matter how old we are, birthdays are always fun. But the value of birthdays tends to change the older we are. Either way, being around friends, family and the ones we love and care for, are what make it a great day and celebrating life is something special in itself. No Prince Charming for me on my birthday, but making other people happy is more than enough to make us the happiest celebrants of all. Happy Birthday to us, Kuya Glenn!
Thank you, U! Happy Events for making our movie event possible. If you also want to spend your birthday with us, please visit Our Create Your Own Event and let us celebrate together.
